Oh my goodness! I am the worst blogger, so sorry! in 2011, I am trying to improve and post at least once a month. I am a mom, makeup artist, mom, artist, mom, photographer and mom! ;)

Hello and Happy Spring!
I hope you are all doing well and blooming with the changes that come with 2011, and change is all we can count on for sure. ;)

Here is a sneak peek at the latest studio session with photographer Todd Mizomi and model Alyssa Sved.

Alyssa is a friend as well as a model I love working with and we have done quite a few shoots together since we met in 2007 :)
Face: Her first look was inspired by Gold. I used MAC Gold Pigment on her face over MAC face & body custom mixed foundation. MAC concealer. Powder was not used in that area so the pigment would adhere to her skin nicely. I used MAC blush in Salsa Rose on her cheeks.
Eyes: I used a little MAC vanilla pigment, black kohl eyeliner smudged with dark brown MAC shadow. Lancome mascara, lashes. I always cut them to match my clients eye size. Sometimes, I really do prefer individual lashes; it depends on the client and the look.
Lips: Laura Mercier gloss in Pure Diamond and CoverGirl wetslicks lipgloss in Tangerine Splash.
Her braids were done beautifully by her friend; more on her work later.

I totally love what Todd did in post processing. Thanks also goes to Todd for the airsoft guns and the swords for the props.

Alyssa's second look was inspired by Spring and Blue and life. I love blue so much I could stare at the sky and the ocean every day of my life and still appreciate it. Azure, azul, azur. LOVE my blues. This particular blue is like denim gone wild via peacock feather blue. A happy combination.
Face: MAC concealer, MAC Face & Body custom mixed foundation, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in medium
Cheeks: MAC blushes in Tenderling and Flurry
Eyes: I used HIP Loreal pigment, as it works better than any of the MAC blues I have tried. No eyeliner, a little Lancome mascara, lashes
Lips: I used Lancome juicy tubes gloss in Moulin Rose

Mother's Day...

Just to be really clear: This is not a makeup related post. As for anything else you want to know, just ask~ I am not shy anymore. Sharing is being real. I am all real.

I took the day off of work completely because I am sad that she is no longer here in the same way. She used to gather up the entire family and take us to the Maui Prince for brunch, on Her Special Day. What a sweet and generous mama.
To honor and remember her today, we spent this Mother's Day Sunday at one of all of our favorite beaches with a part of my gigantic family ...Makena Thirds ~ a really lovely day at Makena.

I am the first to admit this is not an easy day for me. Here is a photo collage she made to enjoy as we continue to love her, honor her, and remember how her laugh filled the room....

Keali'i Reichel

In September, 2009, I was lucky enough to be asked to be the makeup artist for Kumu Hula Keali'i Reichel with Maui photographer U'ilani Friedman.
What a great morning! U'ilani is wonderful to work with and Keali'i is a sweet and humble man. Congratulations to him and his halau at their recent performances and winnings at the Merrie Monarch Festival.

U'ilani

I recently met an amazing young woman through Facebook. U'ilani Davis, a beautiful model and Molokai born island girl with so much Aloha and sincerity.
We originally intended to do some trade work together for her modeling portfolio and my makeup book. We began talking on Facebook and on the phone, voicing our ideas.
We realized, once we met, that our connection was deep and special, a soul connection, and we have since become "sisters". We adopted each other. Life and the Universe connected us for a reason.
U'ilani is a beautiful person inside and out. Her life has been anything but easy. I still cannot believe how strong she is after all she has been through in her young life. Her light shines bright and inspires me beyond words.
Here are a few shots from our first shoot together, the first time we met in person.

Some Mascara and Moisturizer I LOVE

Oh my, how time flies! I have been so busy with my daughter, Ava and of course art and makeup; and I need to catch up on my blog. I am so sorry to be so late, people!!
So what has been going on?
Here's my fave $6.00 mascara right now: Maybelline the Colossal Volume Express in waterproof black. It is not clumpy and goes on nice and fast; easily layering to as thick as you want it~ warning: When it says waterproof, it Means it!

I have also been trying this Organic Moisturizer from Pangea...and I love it! I chose Italian Red Mandarin with Rose for my combination skin. It is not greasy, it smells good and it absorbs quickly. It is nice before primer if I wear makeup that day. I got it at Sephora online and it was $32.00 for 2 ounces. The pump dispenser is nice and works well. The box is made of 100% post consumer recycled paper and I like it. This product has no parabens or chemicals, and it is not tested on animals.

Here is a photo of the box my moisturizer came in and my Maybelline mascara that is easy to quickly locate in your makeup bag or kit due to its Spring fresh yellow color.

On the Beach

The latest shoot was with model bodyfitt/ Patricia who found me on Model Mayhem. The photographer was Todd Mizomi. She asked me to do her makeup and stay for the shoot. I did waterproof makeup for her on the beach photo shoot. We had a beautiful morning on the south side of Maui.
I used MAC makeup and Laura Mercier for her face. I am glad I was there to help with the styling as the waves were making that their category.

New Photoshoots with Todd Mizomi

I really love working with Maui photographer Todd Mizomi. He makes my job even more fun than usual because he is amazingly talented and very hard working. Here are a few shots from our last few photo shoots dating from March 2009 until ending of June 2009.

Model Julie LeBlonde with our Maxim look attempt. Makeup by me, hair by Dan Sanchez. Makeup is MAC and MAC pro eye pigments and shadows, MAC eyeliner in black PenUltimate. Face with MAC airbrush formula and Bobbi Brown powder in yellow #2. Mascara is Loreal waterproof. Assorted MAC contouring powders and blush.

Model Tiara Aleina in April with our first look for her head shots. Hair by me and makeup by me using MAC and MAC Pro products:

and Tiara started dancing in her seat...Todd put this together at her request and I love it.

This is the same day, we moved on to a different look. I added to her eye and face makeup and changed her hair. Thanks to our assistant, Quddus Ajimine, we were able to choreograph Tia with the weapons properly.

and I love what Todd did here with the post editing. Tia can really jump High! this is not a special effect!

The latest shoot with model Alyssa Sved was fun! We were inspired by pinup and I modernized it a bit. She brought in her own fresh plumeria flowers for her hair. I loved trying this hair style on her and had so much fun with all the makeup, too.
I used MAC pro products for the majority of this shoot. Lips with Nars and MAC. Face with Bare Minerals and MAC Pro.

I changed Alyssa's hair in the back to make it appear shorter and darkened her lipstick for the black and white editing.

Spring is an exciting time for colors in makeup. I went to MAC Pro online recently and got some amazing new shadows, blush and lip pigments. I went crazy and even got blue lipmix. Why not?

Foundation Favorites

Good morning~

Most of the questions I get about makeup are about foundation.
I will list my favorites.

It is important to start with clean skin and primer.
I like a primer like Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation Primer.

I make up the eyes before I do the skin because of fallout from eye shadow.

Foundation I use the most for beauty photography and bridal is MAC Face and Body and Make Up For Ever Matte Foundation.
For every day use I like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer with spf 20 or Bare Minerals over moisturizer. Allow the moisturizer to sink into the skin before applying powder products. About 10-15 minutes. You can makeup your eyes or tweeze brows while you wait.
Apply foundation with a foundation brush or a latex free sponge wedge, slightly misted with lavender spritzer prior to using. The dampness prevents the foundation from just sinking in the sponge. Blend well and set with loose setting powder, like Bobbi Brown's in yellow number 1-with a brush or powder puff. A little goes a long way.

Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizer with spf 20

Creating Custom Colors

Hi! Welcome to my first Makeup Blog. I hope it is fun, useful and interactive.

I am here to give information and help people with their beauty needs as well as get to know my style. I was born with the desire to create. (thanks, mom) I love to utilize products to their maximum potential.

Sometimes I don't have the exact color(s) I need, so I use my six well palette to mix custom eyeliner, lipstick and foundation.

For the eyeliner, I use MAC Pro eyeliner mixing medium and loose eyeshadow, as shown above in bottom middle and bottom right wells.
The foundation is MAC face and body in the bottom left well, using two colors to create the perfect one.
